I have fabricated this for thanksgiving two years in a row and everyove raved about it! Information technology comes out unbelievably juicy and simply succulent! I cubed two apples and stuffed the cavity to have enough to serve with the turkey. I likewise took the turkey out of the roasting bag about ii/three of cooking time to prevent the pare from sticking to the bag and basted every twenty minutes after that until it was dark-brown and crispy. I highly recommend this recipe!!! The season is amazing and it's and so easy to set! The apples and the champagne really follow through in this recipe, you won't be disappointed!

This Thanksgiving will be the 3rd year I've used this recipe - the last two years it has turned out PERFECT!! Since nosotros usually have between 10 and 16 people for Thanksgiving, we use a turkey that is at least 25 lbs - even with the larger turkey you tin't go incorrect with this recipe! You do need to check it before the end of the cooking time listed, some ovens tend to cook faster than others (like mine!) and so you want to make sure you don't over-cook information technology. And definitely make sure you flour your bag earlier putting the turkey in. The drippings make an crawly gravy and has been a HUGE hit, i of our guests hates gravy, but when I brand this turkey and the subsequent gravy, he can't get enough! I'k looking forrard to making this over again this twelvemonth, we're having more guests this year than the last 2, and they're looking forward to having this awesome turkey! :)

My first Thanksgiving turkey and information technology turned out perfect. Had a bit of trouble figuring out how to remove the neck (was reaching for the hammer when my boyfriend took over), merely prepping the bird couldn't accept been easier. Season information technology, squish some butter under the skin and then pour champagne on, in and under the bird'southward skin, tie close the pocketbook and toss it in the oven. I followed another reviewer's suggestion to cook my 12-pound bird at 275 for 2.five hours, removing it from the bag and then returning to the oven for some other 45mins to brown the skin. Let it sit for another 20 mins earlier carving and information technology was astonishing. Everyone raved nearly how moist and delicious information technology was. Cheers Sarah for the corking recipe!
12/15/2003
Fabulous recipe! And super easy to make too. A caution when using the oven bag. I forgot to read those instructions and you need to add flour to the bottom of the pocketbook so information technology doesn't burst. I found that out afterwards on and ended up switching numberless before I put the turkey in the oven. The turkey was very moist and I added some chicken boulleon to the goop later information technology was done cooking so I could make gravy that tasted less sweet. I highly recommend this recipe, or the homestyle turkey- michagander fashion on this website. I've merely fabricated two turkeys in my life and these turned out ameliorate than ones family unit members have made for years (shh don't tell) Good luck!
12/30/2005
This was fantastic! I used one-half a cherry onion and one-half an apple on the within, and nosotros used sparkling apple juice instead of champagne (cheaper). The only issue was we did non purchase a thermometer, and it didn't melt all the manner through in the fourth dimension allotted. It might be because this was a free range ornagic i, simply who knows. Nosotros laughed, tossed it dorsum in, and when it came out information technology was insanely juicy and absolutly amazing. This was the first turkey I have e'er cooked, and now my family swears that they won't be using any other recipes now, it was then expert. Thanks so much!
12/26/2005
I used this recipe to brand a 20lb turkey. It took 2 one/two hrs. at 350 degrees. Inside I added 1/2 an onion and cinnamon. This really added to the flavor of the meat and gravy. Too I put butter betwen the skin, and on the outside I added butter, tyme, sage, and marjoram. This fabricated some tasty pare. My family loved the gravy and moist turkey!
11/xviii/2008
I wanted to know what type of Champagne everyone used? Cheers.
xi/23/2006
Just finished Thanksgiving Dinner using this recipe it was the best turkey I take ever made!! I used Sparkling Apple Cider instead of Champagne simply considering I wasn't sure how the recipe was going to turn out only WOW anybody raved over it and how juicy it was. I stuffed the bird with apples and stuffing (it was a 24 pound bird) The stuffing and the gravy fabricated from the juices both turned out spectacular. Thanks for a great recipe!! I will definitely use it for Christmas too.
11/29/2003
This was a huge striking. This was my first Thanksgiving as the host and I have never cooked a turkey before. We had a 24lb turkey and it came out beautifuly. We cooked information technology for exactly iii 1/2 hours. We likewise put butter and champagne under the pare. The gravy that was made from this was just as much a hit as the turkey. Volition definitly employ this once again!
11/23/2008
This is the best turkey I have ever fabricated (I've fabricated information technology nearly 10 times). Information technology has turned out moist and delicious every time and each time I'm invited to a family gathering I'chiliad asked to provide the turkey (that'southward the merely drawback I've seen to this recipe)! I've only seen a few people accept bug and here is how to avoid them. Outset cheque the temperature of your oven with a thermometer before putting the turkey in - just because the dial says a certain temp doesn't mean your oven agrees. As well brand sure you brine your turkey the day before (await for recipes here to do so - it makes a big divergence). You as well need to brand sure the butter is properly distributed in pats nether the skin. Always make sure you adjust the amount of the ingredients for the size of the turkey! Some people adopt to add together a lilliputian less champagne so the gravy isn't afflicted as much. Lastly I would imagine that some of the people having problem with dryness might take used a frozen turkey and didn't allow ample time to thaw and they probably didn't brine it which is the hugger-mugger to increible, moist, turkey. Some other tip for Thanksgiving - try making a Pumpkin Marble Cheesecake - easy and delicious!
10/27/2010
QUESTION: Can y'all yet stuff the turkey even though the apples are inside?
11/22/2011
I fabricated this last year subsequently cruising the cyberspace for a great recipe and it was indeed one of the best turkeys I accept ever had. Nosotros put a petty twist on it...as all skilful cooks should, which was to pack the cavity with bacon as well as the apples and also layed strips of salary on superlative of the breast to kick in a bit more flavor and keep it super moist. Trust me on this, it was a great way to go.
12/27/2010
This turkey was fabulous!! Thanks and so much for the recipe. I made a few changes based on what we had in the firm. Nosotros didn't accept any apples, so I cut up 1 1/ii onions and 3 ribs of celery and put that in and around the turkey. I added ~1/two cup chicken stock to the champagne (we used barefoot dry champagne-it was cheap). In addition to the garlic pulverisation and common salt/pepper. I put ~ 1 tbs rosemary and thyme in the cavity of the turkey. It was AMAZING. Merely the best turkey, everyone is still talking nigh it. Information technology took simply 2 1/2 hours to melt a 20 lb turkey, it could have stayed in longer, only information technology was upward to 165 then nosotros took it out.
11/23/2011
I have used this method for years -- juiciest turkey ANYONE has e'er tasted. I put an orange, an apple and a short stalk of celery in the cavity. Also I utilize BROWN PAPER BAG to roast the turkey. I spray PAM on the within and outside of the bag...If turkey is also big to fold pocketbook closed, use some other BAG to face into the first one. I also use a rack to go along the turkey from laying in the juices. When the bag is opened....the pare is the perfect color and exactly as the photo looks!!!
eleven/29/2009
Everyone commented on how good this was. The only thing is it didn't say what type of champagne to utilise. I searched the web for some time before I found another recipe like and it said they used Asti Spumante. So that'south what I used and information technology was very good.
12/04/2007
East X C Due east L L E Northward T!!! Beginning time baking a Turkey and it came out PERFECT! The whole entire thing was gone. No leftovers! Modest adjustments: Like a few others here, I used white wine instead of champagne. I also used aluminum foil instead of using a roasting purse. I tented information technology loosely for the commencement 1 1/two hours and untented it for the next hour. After an hr I flipped the Turkey over, loosely tented information technology again for 30 minutes and untented for another xxx minutes. I as well basted every 30 minutes. Chest side downwardly offset! Let it represent 20 minutes before carving ;) Yum!!! Will definitely make this again.
11/06/2002
I made this terminal Thanksgiving and it was only fabled!! I could not go over how moist the turkey was!! You lot have to similar champagne(and I practice like it)because you can really taste it. I volition keep this recipe for futurity turkey'southward!
01/11/2005
I followed the directions to the letter and it was awesome! We served this on Christmas Eve and everyone commented on the great taste. You can not taste the champagne at all, which I was concerned about. Then easy, information technology just didn't seem right! (Exist sure to coat your oven handbag in flour first.)
xi/16/2010
I did this style different. I e'er start my turkey upside down (most of the fat is in the lower office of the bird) One-half way through I flip it over (not piece of cake, only worth information technology). I as well stuff the crenel with apples, oranges and dried apricots wrapped in cheesecloth. That bottle of bubble gets dissever into 4 applications, 2 before flipping and 2 subsequently.
11/29/2010
I used one and a half bottles of woodchuck cider instead of champagne and stuffed the turkey with pears too as apples. I have never had a more moist turkey and will use this recipe again in the near time to come. It was sensational!
12/08/2004
The turkey was very moist and tasty. Be sure to employ dry champagne or if you lot want to use the juice for gravy it'll taste really sweetness.
11/17/2010
yes, this might be the world's best!
10/16/2011
Man oh Man I've fabricated a couple of different turkeys, And this 1 is one that's a keeper. cheers Sarah for sharing this ane just beloved it...
11/23/2011
Volition definitely be trying this and for those who exercise non like to utilise whatsoever alcohol in there recipes a tip for a exchange of champagne is Ginger Ale or Soda water and Champagne extract...mmmm
11/26/2008
I cooked for 12 people for an early on Thanksgiving. I used this recipe just had a xx lb. turkey. I doubled the apples simply the residuum was the same. I let it sit on the warm stove meridian in the purse for at to the lowest degree an hr to reabsorb juices. This turned out excellent and and so juicy. My blood brother-in-constabulary, an avid chef took home the recipe to make for Thanksgiving day. Everyone loved this!! I will always make my turkey this way. Just make sure you requite your turkey time to residuum in the bag before cut. Also, turkey baked in cooking bags tends to melt much faster. Thanks for the recipe.
12/02/2002
This was my outset Thanksgiving to cook. The turkey was good, non only good merely Gooood. The only problem was the turkey burst downwardly the middle. I might have used a little likewise much champagne. And when my husband picked information technology upwards from the pan the wings fell completely off. Everything might have not turned out exactly similar it should have just it was Yet DELICIOUS!!!!! Funniest matter, when information technology came fourth dimension to eat, my daughter (who was 2 or iii at the time) merely saturday there sucking on the meat. Side by side matter you know she falls over comatose. This is now known every bit the Drunken Turkey in our house.
xi/xiii/2010
I make this turkey, following the recipe, every yr for Thanksgiving and it is a huge hit with my family. Everything turns out moist and delicious! Also I recommend the recipe to beginner cooks considering I am not very skilled but was able to pull this recipe off.
02/09/2003
to start out it was very delicious. i wish there would take been more specific details though. similar pour champagne under the skin also. i didnt do that, i poured it over. so i think it would have been even better. also specify what kind of champange to use, since im non a regular user to know which is the best. i call back if i would accept known which brand to utilize that i would accept rated a 5 instead of 4. oven numberless are so piece of cake and awesome to utilize, cheers for the idea, and thanks for the recipe. i volition make information technology again
11/25/2011
This recipe was ok. I had an 11.8 lb turkey and I only needed to cook information technology for about ii hours. I fifty-fifty turned down the oven to 325. I ended upward leaving it in for a bout 2.5 hours, so I recall information technology over cooked a fleck, which may have been why mine wasn't every bit juicy as others mentioned. Overall information technology was skilful, and the champagne and drippings made a practiced gravy, but I couldn't give this ane v stars because the season was about average and the cooking time was too loftier and long.
10/15/2004
This is truly the Worlds Best Turkey I accept always eaten. My family and friends loved it; they still talk about it. You will not believe how tender and juicy it turns out. I used Granny Smith apples and Martini & Rossi Asti. Information technology was Fabled. This is the easiest recipe ever. Yous have GOT to try this turkey.
04/x/2007
i altered this a flake, didn't cook in a bag and used white wine instead. THE KEY TO A SUPER GOOD TURKEY IS TO PUT IT Chest SIDE DOWN IN YOUR ROASTER PAN! mine was so juicy we had to choice it apart, the knife wouldn't piece it. the gravy was super skillful too.
12/23/2006
beginning turkey e'er attemted, and now i have to make ane every freakin vacation.this recipe is awsome.
07/07/2005
I tried this recipe last thanksgiving, and the turkey came out perfect. I used white cooking vino and turkey was squeamish and juicy. Information technology browned so perfectly that my family didnt believe I cooked it.
04/28/2006
Like everyone else I'd give high marks for juiciness and flavor. Nevertheless, I took my 12 lb. bird out after merely two:45 mins at 350 (my oven temp is accuarte) and the meat was actually pulling dorsum from the leg bones. I should also say that I had my turkey sitting on the kitchen counter for 2 hours before I started cooking it. If I would have left in for 3 1/two hours I would have had saw grit. Also, looks-wise, this bird is but average.
11/26/2004
EXCELLENT! I used a PEAR/APPLE sparkling drink which came in a canteen like champane only non-alcholic. It was Bang-up.
11/27/2011
Really hard to get the butter under the skin. Too much champagne, just it was actually juicy an skilful.
11/18/2011
I made this turkey terminal year for Thanksgiving. It was the almost tender , moist , yummy turkey I take ever fabricated in 30 years of cooking birds. Needless to say we will exist enjoying this Turkey recipe once again this year!
11/29/2001
Interesting and did make a moist turkey. Not sure what to think of the flavor, especially of gravy made from the broth. Might use dry wine next time. I likewise added 5-6 cloves fresh garlic (minced). But, overall, a fair recipe.
12/06/2004
Keen recipe just as written, I really am not a large turkey fan, and this certainly changed my mind later on almost 60 years. I did brine the turkey starting time for 4 hours and washed it thoughly of the brine solution and dried it well, simply eliminated the apple tree and used a bottle of Asti Spumante instead of champagne. Had an antique covered roasting pan, though I wish I had a cooking purse and it came out perfect. Information technology was a 12 lb. bird and was fall off the bone in under two hours. Will stick with this recipe forever! Cheers so much.
08/29/2002
All my adult life I've never made a turkey because of pure intimidation. Merely terminal year, I made this recipe the Fri after Thanksgiving (when the stores were practically giving the Turkeys away). I institute my recipe! The turkey came out so good and with so little preparation!
11/22/2004
not a review yet...just have a couple questions. this recipe is for a 12 pound bird. how long should i cook a 20 lb.? this is my first thanksgiving for my family AND my fiance's family so i am extra nervous and this recipe seemed both easy and delicious so i am givng it a effort. and the apples take the stuffing's place? thanks everyone/anyone!!
11/xx/2006
I do about the aforementioned matter except I roast my turkey upside downward {it makes the chest very juicy} & add together an orange to the crenel. I also use regular white vino...makes delicious gravy!!!
07/13/2004
This was a very easy recipe to follow with great results. I used gala apples and Andre Cold Duck champagne for the recipe. Information technology was so much quicker and easier than I expected and next time I wont be afraid to cook a turkey. And I cooked information technology at 325 for four hours for a fifteen lb bird. Another time I used Andre Brut Champagne and it was a sweetness and good flavor.
xi/24/2011
If you follow the bag instructions you should have no problem. Also, I usually oil the pare of the turkey and always have a beautifully browned bird everytime. I never accept it out of the bag until it'south done. Besides, to get all of the juice out... have a potent person hold the bag by the tied end over the blistering pan, snip 1 corner and the juice pours out easily. Then make your gravy either in the roasting pan or transfer to a pot to do it. I accept used cooking bags for turkeys for years without 1 mishap. I e'er stuff mine using half purchased herbed cubes and my own cube dry breadstuff, fresh sage and cubed apples, chopped celery, chicken broth and an egg or ii to bind information technology. If you follow the handbag instructions for a blimp bird the dressing will always exist pipage hot. I make plenty to take extra for a casserole. Also, I take found these great cheese cloth bags at at the dollar shop. The stuffing pulls correct out. Beloved it!
12/28/2003
This is the best turkey my husband ever ate! I didn't put foil on pinnacle and information technology got brown very apace. So I added the foil at most 30 minutes into cooking and didn't need to have it off at all the rest of the fourth dimension. Keep in heed that there is a lot of liquid and if you lot don't accept a big enough roasting pan, the champagne will spill out over the sides (in the bag of grade). Next time I am going to endeavor it upside downwardly.
xi/24/2010
I have made this turkey every year, for the last 5 years. It e'er comes out super moist, and delicious! To church building it upwardly a fleck I similar to stuff it with apples, and adouille sausage.
eleven/29/2004
This turkey was the best I've ever made or tasted! All my relatives raved about it. I cooked a 22-lb turkey in a cooking bag on a rack in my electric roaster to free upward my oven for side dishes, and it took 4 hours at 325 degrees. (I had intended to cook it longer at a lower temp, but my alarm didn't go off!) I used the butter as suggested (used a whole stick in patties under the skin since it was such a big bird), and sprinkled on some Lowery'southward seasoning common salt. I likewise omitted the champagne and put 2 C chicken goop in the lesser of the bag instead. Couldn't taste any apple flavour from the apples inside, but maybe they helped proceed it moist. Roasting it upside down is the key!! Thank you for the tip! The leftover breast meat on sandwiches the next day just melted in your mouth! Non a tad dry! This is my new turkey recipe!
11/22/2010
Made this Turkey for a neighborhood pot luck for the kickoff fourth dimension, and it turned out and then expert, that people from other potlucks heard about it and joined ours to get some of that Turkey. Very moist.
11/25/2011
This turkey turned out extremely well. I did a few things differently yet. I added some poultry spice, garlic pulverization, and parsley to the butter that I put under and on the skin. I added red onions to the apples, (as suggested by a few others), I brined the turkey for near 12 hours, and I took it out of the bag for the terminal hour or so to get a amend browning of the pare. The gravy I made from the drippings had a trivial kick to it, (from the champagne I think) but was the all-time gravy I've ever made for a turkey.
01/31/2007
I think this was a atrocious recipe nevertheless the technique is wonderful. I accept been using cooking bags for years for turkey, roasts and ham. It makes the turkey very moist and nifty gravy. The gravy in this recipe was a bit acidy from the champagne. And then give a cooking handbag a try but add spices that you similar.
ten/13/2009
Amazing! Super moist and the remaining juices added great season to the gravy (take off of the fat first!)
12/25/2011
Non crazy about turkey, that said This was wonderful Might only have changed my heed on the bird, sooooo moist 10lb bird cooked in 2 hrs, only problem I had was whern I went to cut purse Kitchen shears and cut right through the wire from tem gauge.LOL wanted a new 1 anyhow. Merry Christmas all
02/08/2011
Turned out fabulous - but had a hard time making gravy out of the drippings
08/21/2007
This was the juiciest turkey I have ever made. We had this for Thanksgiving and it was a huge hit. We will exist using this recipe every year!
11/25/2006
I've fabricated this turkey for the last ii years (for about eight people), and it'due south turned out to be fantastic each fourth dimension. the meat is so moist it practically falls off the bird. This year I added a handful of fresh, chopped rosemary inside and outside of the bird, which made information technology wonderfully fragrant.
11/21/2001
Really yummy, excellent turkey! Moist and flavorful! The only complaint I had was that a couple of my less audacious relatives (lil brother and his wife) could gustatory modality the champagne in the gravy (fabricated from pan juices) and didn't treat the gravy as much. But it actually was one of the tastiest turkeys we ever had!
03/thirteen/2008
I've fabricated this turkey a few times now. Using a different size turkey each time. I do add extra everything basically. I really similar to gustatory modality the seasoning. But, I think overall this recipe is great, and really adds a dissimilar spin to turkey.
10/02/2005
I searched the world over for a fabulous turkey recipe and this actually is the greatest. Beautiful, moist, and succulent sense of taste. I would not change anything about this recipe!!!
09/21/2003
This is the all-time recipe for Turkey that I have tried. Have used it since 2003. I use granny smith apples and sugariness onions, have used champagne but also similar to use sparkling apple tree cider instead. I flavor with the garlic table salt or seasoned salt. I also call back it is of import to use the right turkey. I take tried numerous brands merely discover the best to be a Young and Tender turkey. If from the midwest, I suggest a HyVee brand turkey.
xi/twenty/2007
i plant that calculation some apple sauce under the skin with the butter gave it a really good applewood sort of gustatory modality, the recipe itself turned out great, I have made this recipe 3 years running and will once again make it this year. tip utilize sugariness unsalted butter not margerin,
11/28/2010
It was my 3rd time ever cooking a turkey and it was the all-time turkey I've ever had. So moist and flavorful. It was a hit! I modified the recipe a bit though by omitting the bag and instead creating a loose aluminum tent. I also basted it every hour or so in its ain juices. Thanks for posting this recipe!
11/23/2011
Nosotros establish this turkey banal and a huge thwarting. I did use cheap champagne so perhaps information technology was my mistake but I would not make this again.
11/19/2009
Turkey was expert. This was the first time I have always used a roaster bag and that was a hurting.
01/12/2005
This was so moist and tasty. Will brand again!
12/26/2005
This was my first attempt at a turkey. It was simple to make and the white meat was so moist y'all would accept thought information technology was dark meat. we cooked it at 500 for the first one-half hour and used foil to cover it instead of an oven bag. the last half hr we let it brown without the foil on it. Information technology was a big success and the apples tasted great.
12/28/2011
This is my new turkey recipe! Then moist, and then easy, and the soup I fabricated the side by side mean solar day (boiling down the bones, adding the juices from the roasting pan) was the best I ever tasted. Anybody agreed. Thank you!
12/08/2011
I made this for Thanksgiving this year instead of deep frying and I recall this volition be a recipe I will use over and over. I am sure that I put too much Champagne in it, merely it was fantastic. Texture was nifty and the meat merely experience autonomously and was and then moist. Will probably brand again for Christmas!
12/05/2011
My beginning time cooking a turkey and i came out great! Loved this recipe! I did a few things differently though. I put bacon on meridian of the turkey as well as within the turkey. I as well put sweetness onion and cloves of garlic within as well! Came out bang-up! my family unit was impressed. I as well used a brut champagne and i used more butter and garlic than suggested considering i similar more. :)
eleven/24/2007
Made this for Thanksgiving. Only changes I made was using Sparkling Apple Cider and put yellowish onion and bell pepper in the cavity instead of apples. It was incredible. My mom-in-constabulary said in 60 years she had never seen turkey fall off the bone. It was very moist and tasty. This will exist our turkey recipe forever!
12/29/2007
I made this for Chrismtas Dinner for my family unit Christmas Evening. It was nice an moist, but don't look to use this as a bird you can place on the table to cleave. It was so moist information technology cruel autonomously when I tried to turn it over in the roasting pan. I also think that it needed less champange every bit my turkey meat tasted alot of champange. I assumed that the flavour would "cook out" of the actual meat, but indeed it had a champagne flavor. Also, the giblet gravy made with the drippings tasted of the champagne, so, information technology was skillful, moist, but unlike in sense of taste than I was accustomed to.
12/03/2009
I gave this recipe a three star rating considering I am unsure how it would have turned out if things would take worked out right. I had over a 20 lb turkey and so I idea I would need to double the time (from 3 hours to 6). Well, information technology was cooked in three hours, which was three hours before than I had planned. I might endeavor this again for Christmas unless I decide to cook duck instead! :) Information technology certain sounded like information technology would have been great...
11/13/2002
I used this recipe to make my "first" Thanksgiving turkey and information technology turned out First-class. My entire family unit was raving nigh how adept it was, how juicy, etc. Everything turned out then well, including the gravy, and for the first time ever, my piffling sister actually didn't complain about the turkey!!
01/fifteen/2006
I made this for Thanksgiving dinner and it turned out smashing. This recipe will be a staple for my "Turkey Dinners". :)
11/fifteen/2012
I used this recipe four years ago and every year since. I am asked by everyone to brand it as it is their favorite.
08/05/2007
This is my staple Thanksgiving turkey. Afterward dusting the roasting bag with flour, I rest the turkey inside it on a bed of whole carrots, celery, and large onion chunks. Wonderful!!
01/05/2009
I accept made this turkey 2 years in a row and I Honey information technology!! My family unit requested this turkey in advance and they were non disappointed. The only thing I modify is that I add the entire bottle of champagne for added moisture. It is succulent!
02/21/2008
Couldn't taste the apple tree or champagne...peradventure it was a bad bird...
11/20/2012
This will be my 1st Turkey to cook..but wondering about the meat thermometer....how practise you read it if information technology's in the bag?
xi/23/2011
I made this turkeylast year and my son said "who needs a cooking show to go ideas when mom can brand a turkey that tastes like this!" Guess what nosotros are having tomorrow!
12/29/2001
Wow! Thank you for a nifty recipe Sarah! This was my very showtime "Christmas Turkey"...it looked similar I had fabricated many-information technology was perfect! My turkey didn't chocolate-brown enough in the bag so I took it out for the terminal 15 minutes (it made A TON of gravy!)
12/22/2010
fantastic! the only Minor thing I added was I squeezed two lemons over information technology, and put them in the cavity along with the apples. I will never make turkey without a pocketbook again!!
xi/16/2005
This was actually only an average recipe. The turkey tasted plain and a piffling dry. Followed recipe to the "T".
12/27/2009
Scaled information technology for a 20lb turkey and it was good. The gravy was outstanding. It did cook quicker in the handbag with slits.(only 4 hours and it was already done at meat temp @200.) A little over done merely what a great 1st endeavour. Did cook it breast side down besides.
12/15/2009
First time I tried this, I cooked it wayyy to long. I did a 20lb turkey for 4hrs. The second fourth dimension I did the correct cooking time and the turkey ended up being so moist and succulent. I got rave reviews for my Christmas Dinner. Will use this recipe for years to come...
11/xviii/2005
I have made this turkey for three years (this will exist my fourth). It always falls off the bone. I don't really always accept to "cleave" information technology. I never liked turkey. I like this turkey. With this recipe I discovered turkey doesn't have to be dry!
11/16/2009
i give 5+ stars for this recipe. it was the best turkey recipe ever. the meat is juicy, moist and tender. it also takes shorter fourth dimension than other turkey recipes. highly recommend it. i cooked it last year and plan to practice it again this yr.
12/27/2002
The one thing I wish the other reviewers would have mentioned is that the cooking time on this recipe is for a larger bird. This was my outset ever turkey! The taste is bully and the meat is tender and flaky. I was only confused by the 3-3.5 hr cook fourth dimension, which conflicted westward/the bag instructions of 1.five-2 hrs, in a 350 oven, for my 12lb bird and I cooked for 2.v hours. Which, as information technology turned out, was most .v hrs too many! Information technology dried it out just a smidge. I'll absolutely utilise this recipe over again, just melt it for only 2 hrs!

I took the hazard and information technology paid off!!! EVERYONE loved this turkey! I generally slow cook my turkey all nite, but this method was much faster and the turkey was VERY flavorful and tender! For a fleck extra tendercy, try cooking a bit slower at most 250-275 degrees for an actress hour and a one-half or until golden brownish. Besides fabricated great gravy! 2 of my finicky guest already asked me to give them the recipe. WOW!

I only used this recipe for my first turkey, and got rave reviews from everyone. It was so juicy and tender, and the champagne made a wonderful gravy. I cooked mine in a Nesco roaster, breast down, and added portabello mushrooms to the juice to use for the gravy - I recall I have my new Thanksgiving tradition. Thank you lot and then much for the smashing recipe!

I did not like to cook whole turkeys, but for Thanksgiving 2004 I tried the Worlds All-time Turkey recipe and it was the best turkey I've every had. Family unit members were calling the next day for more. I did not take any left for turkey salad or turkey soup.

My husband and I do non drink so when I saw "champagne", I was a fiddling hesitant to try this recipe. This was only my second fourth dimension to ever gear up a Thanksgiving turkey on my ain. I couldn't exist more happy that I tried this recipe. Since I merely take 2 of us to cook for, I had to alter the recipe merely a teeny. We used a 7lb bone-in turkey chest, and a whole onion (I didn't take any apples)-other than that I followed the recipe to the alphabetic character. This is by far the way to go when preparing a turkey. You only put everything in the roasting bag, put information technology all in the oven, and walk abroad. The turkey was falling off the os and was the juiciest turkey breast nosotros have ever had. Don't worry if you are not a champagne aficionado. The meat does not retain any of the true champagne flavor and the drippings brand a fantastic gravy! The gravy is hearty and full of flavor and has an added tang that is unexpectedly good. I will no longer go to the problem of preparing turkey in the traditional style. This recipe is an absolute keeper! Give thanks you for such a wonderful recipe.

This was the first turkey I ever fabricated and it was swell. I will follow the suggestions side by side time to cut the pocketbook for the terminal 20 minutes or so. The turkey was so moist that we couldn't cut it!

This was my wifes and mine showtime thanksgiving turkey that we made ourselves since I am stationed in Korea. Nosotros take a few friends over and it was awesome. We did not have to carve the turkey only poked it with a fork and it fell autonomously. Hither it is Christmas 24-hour interval and we are making it again. but smashing. The Porters

followed recipe for our thirteen lb Xmas dinner bird.. a hint of boiled chicken more than Turkey was the outcome. will stick to the roasted method [ no bag] next time and salve the Champagne for consumption with the bird .. It cooked much faster than recipe indicated 2hrs so equally suggested in other reviews 275degrees would be a better option peradventure . Gravy was Ok simply no one raved well-nigh information technology .. Volition not repeat this one

Start Thanksgiving cooking for my inlaws. This recipe was absolutley perfect. Moist, tender, perfectly browned. Just perfect. The only variable I made was to drop the temp to 325 @ xv mins per pound. I couldnt have asked for a ameliorate recipe.

WOW!!! This was my showtime endeavor at a turkey and it turned out wonderfully...my hubby is not a fan of turkey...merely he could not finish raving about this. The white meat was then moist it just fell apart. Gravy was also really good.

Absolutely wonderful. My only comment is that to watch out if you're using a bigger turkey, as you'll need more than champagne. The beginning time I fabricated this recipe I neglected to adjust; approximate I was looking forrad to having the balance of the bottle for myself! Remembering to adjust corporeality needed made a HUGE difference in the moisture. Astounding.
